A generous gift from Dorothy and Bill Cohen allows the Honors College to fulfill its mission of joining knowledge and innovation to grow visionaries.

Timeline: Must be admitted to WSU by October 15th and complete all applications by November 1st.

Number of awards per year: up to (10) awarded annually + renewals

Amount: $7,500 (in state)
$ 15,000 (out of state)

Eligibility Requirements:

  • High School seniors meet the requirements for admission to the Honors                                            College;
  • 3.7 high school GPA or 27 composite ACT (1220 SAT – Reading and                                                Math)
  • Have declared a major in the College of Engineering or Barton School of                                          Business on the WSU Admissions application in an eligible field.

Preferred Majors: Accounting, Economics, Finance, HR, MIS, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering.


Koch Scholars must remain in good standing in the Cohen Honors College and participate in 3-4 Koch Scholars events or workshops organized by Honors each academic year. Koch Scholars are expected to live in the residence halls their freshman year.

Koch Scholars Program Activities

  • Scholars’ Fall Picnic – for incoming and current Scholars and Honors faculty
  • Scholars and Mentors Brunch – for graduating seniors
  • Community Service opportunities organized by students
  • Leadership: students may attend leadership workshops on campus and have the option of pursuing the Honors leadership track
  • Mentors: students are expected to apply to shadow or intern with representatives from the company
